Chichester City Colts U14 VS Barnham Trojans U14 – Challenge Cup Semi Final – 17/12/23

The match started with both teams looking to gain an early advantage in the tie.

Chichester City Colts played with confidence in the early stages, trying to keep possession, attempting a few through balls but the Barnham Trojans keeper was quick off the line to sweep up.

There was some good passing from both teams, with Barnham attempting to break with pace down the wings only to be stopped by some great defending from George and Jamie Grigg.

Barnham launched in a hopeful cross, the ball bounced around and eventually fell kindly for their striker to finish from close range.

Chichester City Colts were not behind for long, with some neat play between Billy and Josh P, the ball was worked wide and played across the box, Josh Bickell found Thomas with a neat pass, after a good initial save Thomas reacted quickly to finish at a second attempt.

The first half ended with both teams having a couple of chances but neither keeper was tested.

Barnham started the second half strong, controlling the midfield and putting on a lot of pressure. A long kick forward caught Chichester City Colts on the break, an unfortunate slip allowed their striker through 1-on-1 and a nice finish put Barnham back in front.

Chichester City Colts worked hard from the restart, shutting Barnham’s attacks down on every occasion. Cooper played a good through ball for Thomas to chase, he poked the ball around the keeper, unfortunately, his shot hit the side netting from a tight angle.

The Colts midfield was controlling the tempo of the game, working the ball well. With another great through ball, Milo outpaced the Barnham defense, again the side netting was hit after the keeper sent him wide.

Shortly after, some great pressure by the Colts attackers saw Milo close the keeper and intercept a pass, smashing the ball into an empty net!

With 10 minutes to go, the benches were starting to think about possible penalty takers.

But a poor challenge on the edge of the Barnham box handed Chichester City Colts a great opportunity, with Thomas curling a beautiful freekick into the top right corner

Barnham came out strong from the kick-off desperate to get back on level terms, they got in behind but their striker was denied by Fin’s fantastic reaction save.

With a few minutes left on the clock, a cross was fumbled by the Barnham keeper and George poked the ball into the far corner.
